The 8 Most Famous Engagement Rings of the British Royal Family

We can’t help but notice how royalty-themed jewellery has been influencing recent jewellery trends, especially in the lead up to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration. To commemorate the occasion, we’ve put together a list of the most luxurious engagement rings in the royal family.

8. Duchess Camilla of Cornwall

Duchess Camilla’s engagement ring displays a clear Art Deco influence, featuring a five-carat emerald-cut diamond centre stone that is flanked by 3 baguette diamonds on either side.

While not much is known about the specifics of the proposal, the ring is widely believed to have previously belonged to the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth I, who was seen wearing the design in the 1980s.

7. Princess Diana

Clearly the inspiration for Kate Middleton’s engagement ring, Princess Diana wore a 12-carat blue sapphire that was surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, set in white gold.

Princess Diana became engaged to Prince Charles in 1981, during a private dinner at Buckingham Palace.

6. Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice's ring is truly dazzling, with an array of diamonds for maximum sparkle. It features a round brilliant diamond centre stone that weighs in at 2.5 carats. This centre stone is flanked by two smaller round diamonds, with a tapered baguette on either side, and a diamond pavé that extends halfway down the band.

This glamorous ring was presented to the princess during a trip to Italy in 2018, when her now-husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, proposed.

5. Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom

The Queen’s ring consists of a three-carat round brilliant cut diamond centre stone that is flanked by 10 smaller diamonds.

The centre stone of the Queen's engagement ring comes from a tiara that once belonged to Prince Phillip’s mother, Princess Alice. Knowing her son was planning to propose to the then-princess Elizabeth, she selflessly gifted him the precious stone in 1947.

4. Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge

The main feature of Kate’s ring is a breathtaking 12-carat sapphire, which originally belonged to Princess Diana. The sapphire is surrounded by 12 solitaire diamonds, which are set in white gold.

The padparadscha sapphire used for the centre stone is said to be even rarer than diamonds due to it's unique pink-orange colouring. The proposal took place in the summer of 2018, with Eugenie's now-husband Jack Brooksbank popping the question while the pair were on holiday on the sunny isles of Nicaragua.

2. Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex

Meghan’s engagement ring is a classic trilogy with a sweetly sentimental background. The centre stone comes from Botswana, a place that holds special meaning for the couple, and the two side stones come from the late Princess Diana’s personal collection.
